Gsg9 operators

GSG9 unit

Review and ranking (Siege)

GSG9 is the German CTU in Rainbow Six Siege and part of the original launch roster. The unit includes Jäger, Bandit, IQ, and Blitz.

They’re built around control, denial, and information. Even from day one, the GSG9 kit was less about flashy plays and more about controlling how the round is played. That’s why they’ve aged better than a lot of other launch operators.

They’re all from Germany’s elite counter-terrorism unit, and you can actually feel that in how they’re designed. They’re technical, efficient, and very team-oriented. No gimmicks, just tools that mess with how the enemy wants to play.

4. Blitz

(Worst in the unit)

Blitz R6S - GSG9 unit

Let’s just get this out the way.

Blitz is one of those operators that sounds terrifying but rarely delivers unless you’re in very specific situations. Shield, flash, push. That’s the idea.

In reality, the community’s split on him. At lower levels, people panic against Blitz. At higher levels, he gets shut down fast. In crossfires, utility, and simple positioning, he struggles.

He has his moments, especially in co-ordinated pushes, but compared to the rest of GSG9, he’s the least consistent. Even people who like him will admit he’s situational.

You don’t build a defence or attack strategy around Blitz. You bring him when you feel like causing chaos.

3. IQ

(Underrated but not essential)

IQ R6S- GSG9 unit

IQ is one of those operators the community went back and forth on for years.

On paper, she’s insane. She can detect electronics through walls, which means she directly counters traps, cameras, denial gadgets, even stuff like Bandit batteries. Her gadget gives raw information, and in Siege, information wins rounds.

She’s also fast and has strong weapons like the AUG and 552 Commando, so she’s not just support, she can frag as well.

But here’s the thing. Her value depends on the player.

If you don’t have game sense, IQ feels useless. You’ll scan, see stuff, and not know what to do with it. That’s why for a long time people saw her as “mid” or situational .

At higher levels though, she becomes way more dangerous. Players know default gadget spots, they know where to prefire, they coordinate.

So yeah, she’s strong. Just not universally impactful every round.

2. Bandit

(The smart players pick)

Bandit R6S- GSG9 unit

Bandit is where things start getting serious.

He’s fast, aggressive, and has one of the most important defensive roles in the game. Breach denial.

His shock batteries electrify walls and destroy attacker gadgets, which makes him a direct counter to hard breachers like Thermite and Hibana .

The real reason Bandit’s respected is because of “Bandit tricking”.

That’s not beginner stuff. That’s timing, sound cues, knowing when the charge is placed, reacting instantly, and denying the breach mid-action. When someone can do that consistently, it completely shuts down attacker plans.

Community-wise, Bandit has always been seen as high skill, high reward. Not as easy as Jäger, but arguably more impactful in the right hands.

He’s also got the MP7, which is one of the cleanest feeling SMGs in the game, fast fire rate, solid control.

If you know what you’re doing, Bandit turns defence into a nightmare for attackers.

1. Jäger

(The best and it’s not even close)

Jager - GSG9 unit

Jäger isn’t just good, he’s fundamental to how Siege is played.

His ADS (Active Defence System) destroys incoming projectiles like grenades and utility, which directly shuts down attacker setups . And in modern Siege, attackers rely heavily on utility to clear positions.

That means Jäger doesn’t just help. He forces attackers to change how they play.

What makes him ridiculous is that his utility is passive. You place it, and it keeps working even if you die. That alone makes him one of the safest picks in the game.

Then you add the 416-C.

It’s basically an assault rifle on defence. Easy recoil, strong damage, consistent. That’s why even mechanically average players can perform well with him.

And the stats back it up. He’s had insanely high pick rates for years, even pushing near-universal selection at times.

Community opinion is simple. Jäger is never a bad pick.

There’s no map where he doesn’t work. No team comp where he’s useless. No skill level where he falls off.

He’s not flashy. He’s just always right.

If you are interested in playing Jäger as your main there is a guide to play him

Final Ranking

  1. Jäger
  2. Bandit
  3. IQ
  4. Blitz

Final Thoughts

GSG9 is one of those units that looks basic until you actually understand how Siege works. None of them rely on gimmicks. They just mess with the fundamentals of the game.

Jäger straight up controls utility, Bandit controls map access, IQ controls information, and Blitz… tries to run at people and hope for the best.

If you’re maining Jäger, you aren’t just picking a strong operator, you’re playing one of the core pieces of how defence is built. You’re making attackers waste time, waste utility, and rethink pushes before they even start.

That’s why he’s number one. Not because he’s flashy, but because without him, the whole GSG9 defensive structure feels weaker.
